WEEK 4 | Bedroom Transformation Before and After

We made it! I have been SO excited to get to the end of these 4 weeks, so I could show you this huge guest bedroom before and after. I did a video, so make sure to check that out below and subscribe to my YouTube channel, if you haven’t already!

// CATCH UP ON THE SERIES

These 4 weeks went so fast and I really enjoyed sharing this whole process with you through this Room of the Month series. My guest bedroom needed a makeover so bad, especially with the holidays quickly approaching. Check out the other posts in this series so you are all caught up on this series.

week 1: inspiration board

week 2: let’s go shopping

week 3: sneak peek and some of the diy’s

// the inspiration board

First, I want to remind you of my inspiration board, because this is what I based my vision off of from the very start of this project. All the photos are light, bright, welcoming, refreshing and have a nice neutral color palette, which I find to be very soothing.

// the before

Here is a photo of the before of my guest bedroom. It is a small bedroom with only one window, yet this room does have a lot of light because of the direction the window faces. There was nothing on the walls and I did have to work with that dresser, since it is so heavy and doesn’t really have anywhere else to go. I wanted to keep my budget really small, so did a lot of DIY’s and found items around the house to make this room come to life.

// the after

Ok, let’s show you the after!! I think it looks pretty close to some of those inspiration photos!

guest bedroom after

I love how the sheer curtains from Wal-Mart ended up looking. They are just perfect for the room. I like how there are mostly light grey, beige and whites in the room, but I balance that brightness out with a few dark items, like the nightstand legs, the dresser and the luggage rack. I feel like the room isn’t too heavy and isn’t too stark. It’s juuuust right.

I finally have a headboard in here and it matches the little bench at the end of the bed. The bench is perfect for guests to drop their purses on or just have somewhere to sit. I also have a grey velour chair in here and a luggage rack for more sitting and luggage placing options.

guest bedroom ideas

I made those side tables myself and they are very simple to make. They have elegant clean lines, so they don’t distract from the decor and don’t take up too much room, so there is still that light airy feel to the space. I placed some water bottles on the nightstands with a little custom label welcoming my guests. Little touches like that really make guests feel special.

how to make houseguests feel special

I used blue on those water bottles, which ties in with the custom acrylic diptych paintings I did for above the bed. They have a beachy vibe to them and add a touch of color without being overwhelming to the room. I also added that same shade of blue into these little baskets underneath the nightstands with a few blue and white florals and a few books in those baskets for guests to read during their stay.

I decorated the dresser and hung the picture above it. I thought it would be nice to put together a little sign for guests with the wifi password, which I also placed on that dresser.

decorating a bedroom

All of the inspiration photos had tons of pillows and blankets, so that is just what I did. I wanted that bed to look ultra cozy and inviting. If you’re working with neutrals, a good way to add interest even though you’re using a muted color palette, is to add in a lot of patterns. Don’t be afraid to mix and match stripes and plaids with lace and linen. Mixing those patterns up will break up all those similar shades of colors, so you aren’t floating in a sea of grey!

Overall, I think this guest bedroom came out nicely balanced and has everything it needs to make a guest feel right at home. I’m really happy with how it looks and I hope you enjoyed this series and got a few ideas for decorating a guest bedroom from it. I’m really active in the comments section, so I would love to hear what you thought about this guest room before and after. Thank you so much for reading and I hope you have a very happy day!
