How to Decorate Your Kitchen for Spring...with Lemons!

Is it Spring yet? Almost…even though it doesn’t quite feel like it yet here in Colorado. To brighten things up, let’s take my very neutral grey and white kitchen and give it pops of yellow with lemon crafts that we’ll put together. 🍋 There’s even a lemon trifle recipe that not only decorates our space but tastes delicious too.

As always, I have a video right here in case you want to watch rather than read. Enjoy the Spring lemon inspiration!

// the before

Since this is a whole room makeover with a lemon theme, let’s start by taking a look at the space we’re working with.

This is my living room, and you can see all of the kitchen from here.

You can also see the dinette area from the living room, so I think we’ll want to put a few pops of yellow on that dinette table as well.

Let me show you what I recently picked up from the Target dollar spot, Dollar Tree and Joanne’s.

Is this bicycle not the cutest? I found it for $5 in the Target dollar spot and could not resist it. I popped a little greenery and some fake lemons in the basket for an easy DIY.

This large package of fake lemons is what I used in the basket and they were from Target for $10. I think I will get a lot of use out of these for seasons to come.

I found this cupcake holder at my Dollar Tree. It is metal and looks pretty sturdy and I think this will decorate the dinette table nicely since it echoes the round shape of the table. It was in the $5 section.

I already have a bunch of yellow tulips that I picked up on Amazon, but wanted a few smaller yellow flowers to go with our lemon decor, so I found this little sprig at Dollar Tree for $1.

These wreath rings came in a set of two and they are really small, which is perfect because I want to hang these on the kitchen cabinets, but don’t want them getting in the way of opening the cabinets by being too big. These were a Dollar Tree find.

Joanne’s had fake lemons, but they are slightly smaller than the Target ones and a different shade of yellow, which will add interest to our decor. They also had these lemon slices which are super cute and I think I will use on a sign for my backsplash.

This really wide burlap ribbon will come in handy to use on our small wreaths. I found it on sale at Joanne’s.

// lemon tiered tray

I was sad to see the cupcake stand was not the best quality. It was only $5, so I wasn’t expecting much, but the circle was a little off at the top and there were a few dings and nicks in the paint. I also wasn’t crazy about the color with our yellow theme today.

I used a cream spray paint and this helped hide the dings.

Let’s make a couple things to decorate our new tiered tray!

You can find glass jars like this at Dollar Tree. This one had originally come with a glass lid on it, but we won’t need the top for our little project. I’m going to fill this with yellow pom-poms.

I added a ribbon and a wooden sign that came in a set from Dollar Tree. I used a chalk pen to put the writing on the mini chalkboard. This will be so cute on our tiered tray.

For another piece of decor, I have this wooden sign from Dollar Tree and I’m going to paint it with some white chalk paint and then glue one of those lemon slices on the front. I’ll add a piece of ribbon around the edge to finish it off.

This white jar from Dollar Tree was originally clear glass, but I had painted it white and am going to add some yellow tulips and a lemon slice on the front.

When you’re decorating a tiered tray, it’s helpful to have objects of varying heights to add interest to the layout.

I used sprigs of greenery to break up the lemons and other decor on our tray.

// lemon burlap wreaths

For the cabinets on either side of the stove top, I think a wreath would really dress up the center of these cabinets.

I started by using some floral wire to connect the burlap ribbon to the wire floral ring. I want to make sure the wire is well covered, so I folded the ribbon in half to thicken it and then wrapped this around the ring.

I also like how the folded ribbon made it thicker, so it made the wreath feel and look more substantial.

When I got to the end, I glued the ribbon on the back and trimmed off the excess.

Then I decorated the top and added a thick piece of ribbon so we can hang this on the cabinets. I wanted the two wreaths to match so I looked at the first one while decorating the second one.

I’ll be using a hook on the inside of my cabinets and with a hole cut in the ribbon you can hang these on the inside of the cabinet for a clean look on the outside.

// lemon sign diy

I thought something in the middle of the backsplash here would be a nice touch. Let’s use the pizza pan from Dollar Tree and transform it into a lemon themed sign.

I used white chalk paint on the back of the pizza pan and then printed out my sign and then glued it on with spray mount.

I added a ribbon to hide the seam from the paper.

I also added a bit of ribbon and rope around the edge so no one would know this used to be a pizza pan! A burlap bow and those lemon slices finished off this sweet sign.

// lemon blueberry trifle

Cupcakes or any kind of dessert can really dress up a space and make it feel festive. This lemon trifle would be fun for any Spring evening or even a lemon themed party. Here’s how easy this lemon trifle is to make. Plus, you can use the leftover lemon slices to make a refreshing sparkling water.

I picked up my trifle bowl from Target for my Valentine’s Day centerpiece and I’ve been wanting to make a trifle ever since I got it.

The ingredients for the perfect trifle are:

  • Pound cake or angel food cake

  • 2 packages Jell-O pudding

  • Whipped cream

  • Fruit

  • Cookies or graham crackers

I am not specifying all the flavors because you can mix up the flavors to your liking. I’m going to use lemon flavors in mine and also decorate the top with fresh lemons and blueberries. You basically prepare the pudding, cut the cake into cubes and then layer the ingredients. What could be easier than that?! Plus, it looks so pretty displayed on the counter.

// the reveal

Here is how the space turned out! I am so happy with the touch of cheer this lemon theme added, without going overboard or looking gaudy. It is just the right amount of lemon flair!

I’ve done table decor featuring lemons before. I did a tablescape for Mother’s Day last year using lemons and made a lemon drink. I’ve also done yellow home decor crafts, and lemon keto cupcakes. Yellow and lemons are so fun for Spring and can really cheer a space up.

Thank you so much for reading and I hope you have a very creative day!
