Come Thrift with Me for a Second Time | Home Decor on a Budget

You are going to ♥ these thrifted projects today. I’m calling these thrifted “squared” projects, because these thrifted finds are getting a makeover for a second time! These all have a black and white theme, so they’ll look crisp and fresh in your home.

 // milk jug makeover

I had made over this thrift store milk jug for Fall and I’m ready to give it a fresh new look. I’m going to leave it white, but want to make all the detailing black instead of gold.

I don’t have a Cricut or other paper cutting machine, so I printed out this milk cow and hand trimmed her out.

I used a chalk pen to write out the word “milk”. I did end up going over the words again after using Mod Podge since it caused it to look a little faded.

If you’re familiar with my style, I always go really light handed on the distressing. But I felt like this little milk jug needed a bit of an antiqued look. Something about it just said “farmhouse”. I like to use a stiff brush for stippling on the paint. I use the paintbrush dry and tap off any excess paint and then gently brush this on all the sides to give it a very light distressing.

Oh and if you’re curious where that “make yourself at home…” sign came from – it was a Target dollar spot find! It came in a set with some other decor items for just a few dollars.

// black and white spring wreath

For our next project, you may recognize this from a recent post…actually I think it was in my last post! It’s a basket I made over for Spring, but I want to match our black and white theme today. The basket was a great thrift find and most thrift stores usually have a basket or two laying around. This one is very tall and skinny and the first thing I want to do is give it a few coats of white paint.

Next, I removed any of the orange florals and replaced them with white florals from Dollar Tree, making this a very budget friendly project.

I have a few different black and white ribbons and made a simple bow out of the buffalo check one.

I had found this “Welcome” sign in the Target dollar spot not long ago. This will look great on the front door on our basket. I’m going to hang it on a nail, so it can be switched out for future seasons.

I think the black and white looks so nice on my red front door!

// thrifted cake stand

This candleholder is another thrift store find. It was originally gold, but I had painted it off white for another project. Remember, all these DIYs are getting a second makeover, lucky them! We’re going to use a Dollar Tree stove cover to turn this into a decorative stand.

We’ll be doing something on the top of that metal stove cover, so I’m just going to worry about painting the side edge of this stove cover.

I want the base to be more of a bright white than this off white color, so I’ll give this a few coats of white chalk paint.

You can find this floral contact paper at Dollar Tree. I traced the circle and cut out the shape onto the contact paper.

If you want to make sure it really sticks well, just give it a coat of spray mount before sticking it down. My favorite spray mount is Super 77.

I trimmed the edges of the contact paper because there were a few ragged pieces.

Then use Gorilla Glue to stick this to the candle holder base. I waited a few hours to make sure it was completely dry before putting anything on it.

Here is how my final stand came out. It looks so dressy with that thrifted candle holder base and the stove cover was such a cheap Dollar Tree find to finish this DIY.
