Welcome back to the Room of the Month Challenge, where we are in WEEK 2 of transforming my boring guest room into an elegant, neutral and relaxing environment, so when guests come over they will really feel welcome. Last week you saw my inspiration board and this week you will be shopping with me for a few things to make this room come to life.

// the room

My bedroom is small and doesn’t have much in there right now. I don’t want to spend a lot, so I will be doing some DIY’s and using a few things from around my house to dress this bedroom up for as little money as possible.

My guest bedroom is so boring, I really want it to be light and bright and cheerful, but I want to stick with that neutral theme I have in my whole house with the grey’s and taupe’s and beige’s. Here’s a reminder of my inspiration board. From looking at these photos, the things that stood out are the headboard, the inviting bedding, the bench at the end of the bed, light colored curtains and the 2 nightstands with matching lamps. I also like the idea of possibly adding a luggage rack.

// let’s go shopping!

I found this luggage rack on amazon.com and have ordered it. We will see how it fits into the room when it gets here. I wanted at least 1 other cherry wood item, since I won’t be moving that heavy dresser and wanted something to tie into the wood. It will add a little contrast to all the light colors, as well.

I don’t have any matching nightstands in my house, so that will be a DIY, since nightstands are usually around $75-200 apiece, for a decent one. I went to Walmart and saw some wooden pieces that I may be able to put together into nightstands. They had quite a few different sizes and types of wood panels and crates. I like the whitewash on this one and I may end up not even painting it if it looks good with the other decor.

I looked around online for some legs and found 6 metal legs from amazon.com that I’m going to attempt to put on these wooden pieces.

When I was in that craft aisle at Walmart, I also saw some canvases that are super cheap. I wanted to do one big painting, but 2 smaller canvases are cheaper than buying one giant canvas. I will be creating a diptych for either the space above the headboard or on one of the other sad empty walls in this room. I also grabbed some acrylic paint that I may need to make the neutral abstract painting. The paint was less than $2 per tube, so not bad for the amount of paint you get.

The curtains at Walmart were SO cheap! And there were so many options. I went for a long off-white, lightweight curtain. I got 4 panels because I want to make sure the curtains look nice and full on that one window in the room. I think these panels will make the room look so soft and elegant.

I have an abundance of pillows sitting around my house, so I think I’m good if I collect those up. I did mention I might want to add a pop of color, if the neutrals are looking a little bland and I think I could accomplish that for very little cost if I bring the color into the bedding. But it may not need that, we will just have to see how it all comes together.

Next Thursday, I will be sharing how the room is coming along and give you a few sneak peeks. Then it will already be time for the BIG REVEAL. This month sure is going fast! Thank you so much for reading hope you have a very happy day!
